How to Make a Cloud Nursery Mobile
I’ve had this idea for a cloud mobile tutorial for months now, but there was always something more pressing to do (I should clarify that, in most cases, neither the mobile nor the more pressing matter was accomplished). This was actually a very easy little project, I’m surprised to say. You never know, when you delve into something new, whether it will go as planned or end up in the unfinished pile in the corner of the closet (along with the partially knitted baby blanket).

Before & After: From Boring Office Desk to Industrial Chic Changing Table
When Maude Lefrancois found out she was pregnant, she decided to change her home office into the nursery — and her desk was the perfect height for a changing table. With a few nuts and bolts, a shelf, and vintage wood crates, she turned her sterile office desk into a warmer industrial changing station with more than enough storage. Maude drilled holes into the metal frame and attached four angled brackets with nuts and bolts.

Aidan’s Dreamy Room in Germany
Name: Aidan Location: Northern Germany in Hannover Room Size: 4.7 x 3.2 meters (15 x 10 feet) I’m a long-time fan of the work of Holly Becker of Decor8, so I was thrilled to find out she was pregnant and working on a nursery. By choosing the main focal points first, like the stunning Kite wallpaper by Ferm Living and the gorgeous crib by Oeuf, Holly was able to work from there to create a dreamy and cohesive gender-neutral space for baby Aidan.

Before & After: Finn’s Bright and Airy Nursery Transformation
With baby Finn on the way, mom Kelli of Purple Tree Photography wanted to transform the family’s unused third bedroom into a nursery for their new addition. After many coats of paint and a lot of hard work, the space has been transformed into a bright and airy oasis for their beautiful baby boy. I think my favorite part is the pop of color in the small nook above the crib – it went from being the biggest eyesore of the space to its greatest asset.

Before & After: Carter’s Nursery Grows Up
Kim wanted to update her son Carter’s nursery into a big boy room. They never used the room except for sleeping, and it was stuffed with forgotten gifts and baby gear. Kim knew she wanted the new space to be light and airy and to reflect Carter’s personality and interests, so she painted the walls a bright white, added a splash of Carter’s favorite color on the ceiling, and added fresh accessories: What a stunning transformation! Thank you Kim!

Cottage Chic Meets Glam in Wren’s Room
Name: Wren Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Room Size: 130 square feet I’ve followed Holly Baker of In the Fun Lane for years now, and have always admired her style. She masterfully combines the cottage/shabby chic aesthetic with a more glam/modern look throughout her home, and her daughter Wren’s room is no exception. How would you describe the look and feel of this room?

Rafael’s Sweet & Simple Nursery
Name: Rafael Location: Amsterdam Room Size: 36 square feet Take a peek into Rafael’s darling little sanctuary where he spends countless winks! Sofia, his mother, did an excellent job using muted and natural colors with a pop of blue and delicate touches around the room. She took time choosing items that were personal (including vintage pieces that her husband used growing up) and practical.

Henrik’s Bright, Colorful Abode
Name: Henrik Location: Utah Room Size: “I’m so bad at guessing.” What happens when you combine your child’s personality with a keen eye for decorating and a little ingenuity? Pure magic. That’s exactly what mom, Meta Coleman of One More Mushroom did when she designed her son Henrik’s room. Henrik loves pirates, ships, and exploring, so Meta chose Ralph Lauren’s Out to Sea wallpaper to set the tone for the space.

Jack’s Modern Adventurous Abode
Name: Jack (3) Location: Dallas, TX Room Size: 11′ x 12′ How do you blend a modern aesthetic with the wild spirit of a romping, play-in-the-dirt three-year-old boy? Just ask Ginny Chase of Chasing Sunshine. She artfully created a clean, modern black and white bedroom for her son Jack without losing any of the playfulness or fun that comes along with being three – no small feat as a renter.

Addison’s White & Bright Charmer
Name: Addison (5) Location: Dallas, TX Room Size: 12×14 There are so many things about Addison’s room that I love – the bright, white color palette, pops of fun color, and the amazing marquee letter to name a few. But perhaps the most impressive thing is that her mom, Ginny, was able to create such a happy, vibrant, and personal space in their lovely rental home.

Eden’s Sweet and Cozy Nursery
Name: Eden Location: Richmond, Virginia Room Size: 7′ x 9′ The moment I walked into this nursery, I wanted to plop down on the rocking chair and hang out in there all afternoon! Laura did a great job making a small space feel both cozy and bright, and attributes a lot of that coziness to the fact that most of the items in the nursery are gifted from friends and family who wanted to be a part of baby Eden’s life.

Small Kids’ Room Strategy: Toddler-Size Bunk & Loft Beds
Recently I came across the image above of small bunk beds in the shared bedroom of 4-year-old twins and realized I’d never seen mini bunks like this. They are the same size as a toddler bed (i.e. the size of a crib mattress) and offer a stop-gap solution for parents looking to eke out another year or two in their current space. First, a word about safety: Although these beds are sized for toddlers—i.e.

Before & After: Chaos Cupboard to Boy Cave
When Sara’s family moved into this house, they had a long series of DIY and renovation projects to tackle and the closet you see above became their “chaos cupboard” – toys, tools, spare pillows, old curtains, and a de facto staging area for their next project. Sara described it as “an embarrassing vortex of stuff.

A Small, Smart Space for Judah & Layla
Name: Judah (4) & Layla (3) Location: Senoia, Georgia Room Size: 110 sq ft Judah and Layla’s shared space is about the same size as my daughter’s small nursery (albeit a bit taller), so I was amazed with how their mother Keight was able to make the space serve so many different functions. It’s a bedroom, a playroom, an arts and crafts space, and a general hangout.

Ruby’s Gorgeously Glam Nursery
Name: Ruby Location: Valley Village, CA Room Size: 12′ x 12′ Ruby’s nursery had me at hello. From the glamorous chandelier to the pattern play throughout the space, it isn’t your typical baby room by any stretch of the imagination. Name: Wyatt (6 Months) Location: Tustin, California Room Size: 10×12 ft While I’m not usually a fan of primary-colored nurseries, I was absolutely smitten from the moment I stumbled across this happy space that Whitney Johnson created for her baby boy, Wyatt. By starting with a black and white base and adding small pops of primary colors throughout the space, she kept the room feeling colorful and happy without making it feel too saturated or busy.

Before & After: Budget IKEA Sniglar Crib Goes Pretty in Pink
The Sniglar crib mostly owes its popularity to its $69.99 price tag, but it works for so many families because the plain and simple design is versatile enough for any style of room. If you think the Sniglar is perhaps too plain and simple, check out how the folks at bedding company Little Auggie customized one with paint… Painting the spindles of the crib completely ups the style factor and gives the crib a fresh, modern feel.

Before & After: Pepto Pink to Serene Seaside Boy’s Bedroom
Danielle’s son Conor was distressed by the pink walls in his new bedroom. In fact, they made him cry. A fresh paint job and several DIY projects later, his new beachy boy’s room was making a splash. Danielle: The day after we moved into our home, Conor came down the stairs crying. Absolutely sobbing and we begged him to tell us what was wrong. Did he have a nightmare? Before & After: A Pulled Together Kids’ Room
This is not an “OMG! You lost 100 lbs.!” kind of makeover. Jasper’s Bold, Beachy Abode
Name: Jasper (7) Location: Sydney, Australia Room Size: 3m x 3.2m I always admire when a kid’s room is reflective of his interests, but still manages to be stylish. That’s one thing I’ve always struggled with reconciling — throwing Elsa and Anna all over the place and painting the room Barney purple just isn’t my idea of fun. Before & After: Turning a Walk-In Closet Into a Nursery
With a baby on the way, Anna and her husband had to decide how they were going to fit a little person in their San Francisco one bedroom. The walk-in closet held the solution. From Anna: We had no extra room for a baby. The only “room” we had was our walk-in closet so we decided to convert that to our nursery. Or what we so lovingly call, a “Closery.” It took us about 2 months to purge all of our stuff and find wardrobes to replace the clothes we were keeping.

Is a Nursery Even Necessary?
New crib, new crib mattress, new rug, new curtains, new rocker, new wall art, new bookshelves, new dresser, new change mat—no doubt about it, the nursery business is big business. But do we really all need to buy into it? I mean, is it possible to just do no nursery? Would that be okay? How would that work? Well, ultimately, the answer to that question is going to be personal. 6 Things You Can Throw Out Of Your Kid’s Room Right Now
Ever open the door of your kid’s room and think: oh my, there is just too much stuff in here? Well today—seriously, today—let’s throw some of that junk away. Here’s where to start: 1. Recycle papers from school. Not everything is a masterpiece. Not everything will even be noticed if it is gone. Kids bring home reams upon reams of paper from school. Fight back. Recycle. 2. Area Man Builds Daughter Incredible Tree Bedroom, Strong Contender for World’s #1 Dad

I’m a professional video game artist and make virtual worlds for a living, so while I thought I could come up with the aesthetic idea, I was kind of un-prepared for the physical realities of this project. Bo’s Timeless Scandinavian Nursery
Name: Bo (8 Months) Location: Oslo, Norway When creating a bedroom for our son Bo, we wanted it to tie in with the rest of our apartment and not be overly babyish. Paige’s Dreamy Victorian-Boho Bedroom
Name: Paige (10) Location: Dallas, Texas This makeover was inspired by my colorful daughter. The jumping off point for the entire room was bright ikat fabric that was used for the custom drapes and my daughter’s desire for a canopy bed. The look is what I like to call Victorian-Boho. I selected a subdued color for the wall so the room would age with her as she grows into a teenager.

Max’s “Mix and Modern”Room
Name: Max ( 6) Location: Crystal Lake, Illinois I call Max’s new room Mix n’ Modern because although it is quite modern, I love to mix that up with a little vintage, a little handmade, and a little quirky. I want both of us to love it, and think I achieved that with this recent upgrade. I gave him our old Malm bed, but painted it. I made him an enormous chalkboard since he loves art.

Victor’s Functional and Stylish Big Boy Room
Name: Victor ( 3) Location: Norfolk, Virginia Not too long ago I was planning a nursery. But as every parent knows, time flies by and soon enough you find yourself planning the kids college education instead. Sigh… When we moved to our current house I was about 5 months pregnant. It was such a special time with the expectation of the new addition to our family of four plus our new house.

A Mixed-Use Space for Mom & Baby “Where Creativity Thrives”
Name: Pie (10 months) Location: South Park — Charlotte, North Carolina Our juxtaposition of a room happens to be the most valuable square footage in our home: the playroom/office combo. It seems nonsensical, but for us, it’s perfect. Pie’s playroom is where we spend the biggest chunk of our days. I am a blogger, so I “work” from home. In reality blogging is more fun than work—my blog is a place where I go to feel creative and inspired.

Lola’s Warm Woodland Themed Nursery
Name: Lola ( 1) Location: Ottawa, Canada When my husband and I found out in March of 2014 that we were going to be having a second child we were cautiously excited! After several early miscarriages, a new pregnancy was met with some serious trepidation. So needless to say, once we successfully passed the 12 week threshold, we were able to breathe a tiny sigh of relief and I was keen to start to transform what I had dubbed “The Sad Room,” into a new baby nursery!

Book Nook Makeover: There’s Hope for That Unused Corner in Your Home, Too
Above: A bland, unused corner of a living room. Below: A colorful, dreamy reading nook you could get cozy in for hours reading your favorite novel. Yes —this mini-makeover of a living room’s unused corner turned reading nook is totally intended for kids. But that’s not stopping me from getting inspiration for my own dreamy book nook.
