Name: Abby Greenawalt Location: Capitol Hill, Washington, DC Eight years ago I stumbled upon a quirky little apartment in the heart of Capitol Hill, located about two and half blocks from the Capitol (not kidding). It’s about 750 square feet with a very sweet balcony. Perfecting the art of tiny apartment living is a continuous work in progress. If something comes in, something has to go out.

Name: Lauren Location: West Village, New York City I’ve been living in my 500 square foot, 5th floor walk-up studio in the West Village for about a year now. I moved approximately seven blocks south from another West Village place. The neighborhood feels like a dynamite grown-up version of Sesame Street to me where everyone knows everyone, which is a huge rarity in New York. I couldn’t possibly move out of the ‘hood!

Name: Erika Stanley Location: Seattle, Washington My husband, six kids, and our yorkie live in a 2000 square foot, 1909 Craftsman in Seattle. My parents bought this house when my firstborn was a baby. It had brown shag carpet, walls dripping with nicotine, the original kitchen, electrical and plumbing. My parents were new to town and thought it was way over-priced. I begged and convinced them to buy it with the secret hope of one day owning it myself.

Name: Susan Snow Location: Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island This house is a two-story traditional style. My boyfriend lived in it previously, so it had a real bachelor pad feel to it, which was terribly dated. When we decided to move in together, the renovations, updating and decorating started! Name: Noah Allison Location: Brooklyn, New York Six months ago, I finally made the move to New York from Los Angeles. As a result that I became car-free over two years ago, assimilating to public transit was much easier than adapting to the realization that I was going to be living in a much smaller space that I was use to.

Name: Hannah & Tara Location: Denton, Texas (Editor’s note: It’s a delightful coincidence that this weekend’s house calls came from the same stylish spot in Texas.) My best friend Tara and I lived in a student-living apartment together with two other girls for two years before moving into this space for our senior year at The University of North Texas.

Name: Paige & Dwight Location: Denton, Texas Our little home is located just north of downtown Denton, Texas. The 1100 square foot, 1940s home is one that Dwight bought over a decade ago and he gutted it a couple of years ago, preserving the mantel and as much of the hardwood flooring as possible, but replacing almost every single other detail in the home.

Name: Derrick Johnson Location: Downtown, Los Angeles, California How did I end up in Downtown Los Angeles? It was all by chance while meeting a friend for lunch. We saw a sign that said loft tours and this loft was the first and last loft on that tour. I instantly fell in love. Its openness, natural light and historical details are the reasons why, five years later, I’m still proud to call Downtown Los Angeles my home.

Name: Ildiko Location: Budapest, Hungary We have a small (37m2 = 398 square foot) one-room apartment in Budapest downtown that we’ve transformed into an Airbnb rental. We had really little money to do it so my husband Andras and I did as much as we could by ourselves. Andras designed and built the cup holder coffee table. And I painted the paintings (except the one above the television, that is by Sara Osgyanyi).

Name: Aileen Allen Location: Edmonds, Washington My husband and I rent a 1200 square foot apartment in Edmonds, Washington — a little beach town about half an hour north of Seattle. Our decorating budget is pretty small, so our home is mostly filled with DIY projects that we’ve done and pieces from thrift stores and antique malls. My favorite room is our living room…it’s the one that gets the most light, and the room that we’ve done the most to.

Name: Charlotte Location: Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia, Pennslyvania We live in a one bedroom apartment in a 16-story building (older but well maintained) just a block and a half from Rittenhouse Square and catty-corner from the most wonderful Philly bakery, Metropolitan. I live with my boyfriend. We are two students, so we are incredibly budget conscious. Our style is eclectic: mid-century (or imitation) with warmer, older accents from flea markets, ebay, etsy and hand-me-downs.

Name: Jenny Kaplan and Chris Corrado Location: Brooklyn, New York Chris and I have been living together for about a year. I moved into his apartment, where he has been living for the past six years. Chris already had a lot of the “bones” in place, but was looking for a touch of feminine to soften the space space up. We gave the apartment an entire face lift — merging both our styles together in a clean, modern approach.

Name: Kelly Millspaugh Thompson Location: Falls Church, Virginia (right outside of Washington DC) Our dutch colonial is located in Falls Church Virginia which is about 10 miles outside of Washington DC. We are located in a little area called Sleepy Hollow, an older mature neighborhood with big lots and lots of trees. When we bought our home it was the ugly duckling on the block but my husband and I saw the potential.

Name: Lauren Diane Svenstrup Location: Andersonville, Chicago, Illinois This apartment is in a vintage courtyard building and is around 700 square feet. I have lived here almost two years. As an interior designer, my space is an ever-changing canvas. Just when I think I am done, I find another project. Deep down at the core, I have an affinity for vintage finds. I love the hunt, I love the history. Up until this past year, I would say about 90% of my furniture was either inherited or found.

Name: Rachel Rose Location: Downtown Prescott, Arizona Our tiny coolest home is a studio rental in the heart of historic downtown Prescott, Arizona. It is only 530 square feet yet feels just perfect for me and my husband. The property owners/management (who are friends of ours) took a year to completely renovate and restore this precious space.

Name: Jenn Deese Location: Pico/Robertson Area, Los Angeles, California I live in a large one bedroom apartment (about 900 square feet) in Los Angeles’ Pico/Robertson area. I’ve been here for about a year, and my apartment has been ever evolving since I got here! One amazing feature of my apartment is the fact that I’ve got an incredible amount of natural light that comes in through big bay windows in the front of the apartment.
