And just like the borough that it is located in, it is a composite of places near and far. Sybil and Dan are the husband and wife powerhouse duo behind Greenpoint’s People of 2Morrow vintage apparel and gift boutique.

 Years lived in: 2 years; Owned Chad James is a Nashville architectural consultant & interior designer with a bit of a reputation. Not the kind of reputation your mother warned you about acquiring, but the kind that lands you some of the most exciting design projects this side of the Mississippi. As the principle of Chad James Group, he’s designed spaces all over the world.

Name: Vanessa Faye Wurman and her dogs Solomon and The Dude Location: Jamestown, Rhode Island Size: 1,300 square feet Years lived in: 15 years; owned You don’t even have to enter Vanessa’s home to know that it’s not your typical seaside cottage. Unique bullseye glass details embellish bright green doors and custom-designed bamboo fencing. A horse made of rusty metal tools grazes on the front lawn.

Name: Desanka N. Fasiska Location: Hollywood Hills; Los Angeles, California Size: 832 square feet. The property has a lot size of 2,454 square feet. Years Lived In: One; owned. Welcome to Lux Lodge, the inspirational Hollywood Hills home of artist, fashion consultant, and designer, Desanka N. Fasiska. A 1963 A-frame home redesigned by Desanka, it’s filled with her discerning creative touches.

Name: Sophia and Sebastian Black Location: Washington DC Size: 3,000 square feet Years lived in: 28 years owned The Blacks have the type of house that engages even the passersby. Sophia and Sebastian built their house in the late eighties on a beautiful and coveted piece of land overlooking a valley; the house itself has as much artfulness as the spaces inside. [Even while I was there for this house tour, two pedestrians happened to stop and tell the homeowners how much they loved the house!

Name: Kim & Scott Myles (and Ollie) Location: Los Angeles, CA Size: 1,100 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Rented It’s not an overstatement to say that Kim Myles is happy. The winner of HGTV Design Star won America over with her beautiful designs, and her cheerful, infectious personality. Now on OWN’s Home Made Simple, this design star is making everyone’s home a little happier with her signature colorful and exuberant style.

Name: Ben and Viv Yapp and their one year old son, Covey Location: Sydenham; London, United Kingdom Size: 890 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; owned Set in an old dairy mews in South London is the eclectic and creative home of the Yapp family. You may remember the cool colored House Call of Viv Yapp from the summer— the wall colors were so striking in the photos that I had to go and see them in person.

Name: Jen and Mark Location: Queen’s Park; London, United Kingdom Size: 2,000 square feet Years lived in: 1 year, 9 months; Owned Moving their family of four from a bursting-at-the-seams one level apartment in London’s lively Camden Town to a three level Victorian terrace house in the leafy suburb of Queen’s Park, Jen and Mark faced some challenges when it came to filling the space in their fresh family home.

A wonder filled home of art, style, and whimsy. Everywhere you look there’s something interesting. You want to hear the story behind every piece.

Name: John Malta Location: Uptown; New Orleans, Louisiana Size: 1,100 square feet Years lived in: 8 years; Owned In New Orleans, a brief respite from the searing summer sun is always welcome, whether provided by a front porch, a sprawling live oak, or a daily summer thunderstorm. Walking into hairstylist John Malta’s gray-toned uptown cottage has such an effect; one simply feels a breeze has rolled in.

Name: Robert Fleming Location: Silver Lake, Los Angeles, California Size: 1700 square feet, 3 bedroom Years lived in: 5 years; owned Musician Robert Fleming’s Los Angeles home is nestled in the hills of Silver Lake and is a great representation of the danceworthy indie-pop music he plays with his band Sneakout. Fun patterns and and a mixture of sleek modern and vintage elements stand out against moody backdrops of dark grays, forest greens, and navy blues.

Name: Malene Barnett Location: Bedford-Stuyesant; Brooklyn, New York Size: 3,000 square feet Years lived in: 5 years lived in; 6 years owned One barely has to enter the home of luxury carpet designer Malene Barnett to appreciate her eclectic and refined design sensibility. Years before meeting Malene at a book launch in Soho, her home caught my eye. As a neighbor and frequent passerby, several design elements jumped out at me within the few seconds it took to ride my bike or walk past her home.

Name: Giuliana Lomaglio, bartender, musician, and artist Location: Echo Park; Los Angeles, CA Size: 1,000 square feet Years lived in: 3 years; rented From her colorful wardrobe to her vibrant spirit, Giuliana oozes character. Her eclectic Echo Park home, which houses a diverse collection of art, reflects her fun-loving attitude and warm personality.

Name: Micha Thomas, co-founder of The Made In America Project Location: Laurel Canyon-Los Angeles, CA Years lived in: less than 1 year; rent Micha Thomas is the co-founder of the Made In America Project, a grass roots operation to bring love and attention to small domestic brands and companies. Her home in Laurel Canyon is a perfect mix of Southern California and Santa Fe style and the ultimate Bohemian retreat .

Chris grew up in Papua New Guinea and is a talented woodworker and chef and Amber is a fashion rep who grew up in SoCal.

Location: South End; Boston, Massachusetts Size: 1,975 square feet Years lived in: 1 year Abby Ruettgers has seen a lot of change in recent months. A year ago, she was simultaneously renovating her new home and creating a new business. But if you think that’s tough, just try wrangling her Bernese Mountain dogs, Cooper and Keegan. Abby’s store Farm & Fable, specializing in vintage cookbooks and cookwares, opened in November a mere 46 steps from her front door.

Name: Christina Simon, co-owner of Feathers Boutique, interior designer at Mark Ashby Design and graphic designer with clothing line through Alchemy Design. Shares home with partner Ed Davis. Location: Windsor Park, Austin Texas Size: 1100 square feet Years lived in: Owned 10 years Christina wears a lot of hats. She’s an interior designer for a high-end residential design firm in Austin. She’s personally tackled some hip commercial spaces like Stubbs, Trinity Hall and Emos Austin.

Name: Dustin Audet and Ali Elman of Rust & Varnish Location: Lohi, Denver Size: 961 square feet Years lived in: 3 years; Owned Although Ali & Dustin, the dynamic design duo behind Rust & Varnish made their home in Colorado, their California roots and their insatiable love for the beach inspired its design to be reminiscent of the sandy shores of the West Coast.

Name: Peggy Hsu and Chris McCullough — architects and co-founders and owners of Hsu McCullough, an architecture practice based in Los Angeles. Location: Los Angeles, California Size: 1,130 square feet (house) + 350 square feet (detached garage) on 5,700 square foot lot Years lived in: 7 years Husband and wife architects Chris and Peggy founded a firm together, and they also collaborated on the remodel of their Los Angeles home.

Location: Bloomingdale, Washington, DC Size: 2,800 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Owned Before you even ask, yes, people have tipped Gypsy the cow. Liz had to cement her in. “When I move again, I’m planning to dig her up and take her with me,” she said. After all, Gypsy is more than just a goofy lawn ornament. Liz grew up in Arizona, where her father is a cattle rancher. Gypsy is an homage to her childhood.

Name: Kathrin Smirke and Brian Smirke Location: Joshua Tree, California Size: 1,000 square feet Years lived in: A little over 1 year (part-time) Kathrin and Brian put an ad on Craigslist looking for a cabin in Joshua Tree. They were so surprised when they received an e-mail from someone with a geodesic dome in the desert. Before the dome was even put on the market, Kathrin and Brian were in escrow to buy it. They often say it was fate; the dome found them!

Location: Beachwood Canyon, Los Angeles, California Size: 2,700 square feet Years lived in: 6.5 years; Owned When Lori and John hired Tamara of House of Honey to come redecorate their newborn’s nursery, the inspiration and desire to redo spread quickly throughout the entire home.

Location: Irish Channel, New Orleans, Louisiana Size: 2,200 square feet Years lived in: 9 years; owned Valorie Hart is fearless when it comes to style. Her bright pink pixie coif, bold wardrobe and oversized eyeglasses, reminiscent of fashion icon Iris Apfel, make clear that this decorator, interior designer and stylist loves to have fun and make a splash.

Name: Musician Jess Williamson, Mikaylah Bowman (co-owner of local Austin bookstore Farewell Books) and Frankie Dog Location: East Austin, Texas Size: Two bedrooms, one bath Years lived in: Renting, 1.5 years There’s a soft, quiet peacefulness to a home that embraces a “work with what you’ve got” attitude.

Name: Matilde Alberny and Gustavo Duque Location: Warehouse District — New Orleans, Louisiana Size: 710 square feet Years lived in: 4 years; owned Apartment living is the key to happiness for Matilde Alberny and Gustavo Duque. These New Orleans artists never imagined they would end up renting their beloved home in the Lower Garden District to move into their 710 square foot investment property.

Name: Gallerist Anthony Cran and fashion stylist Naomi Wilding, owners of Wilding Cran Gallery Location: West Adams; Los Angeles, California Size: 1,400 square feet Years lived in: 5 years It’s no surprise that Naomi Wilding and Anthony Cran have so much style, considering that Naomi’s grandmother is Elizabeth Taylor and Anthony’s father is a prolific painter. Anthony’s father, Chris Cran, has his work represented at the Wilding Cran Gallery.

Name: John Conneely, general contractor/owner of California Modern, and Erin Sheehan Location: Eagle Rock; Los Angeles, California Size: 1,100 square feet Years lived in: 3 1/2 years John immediately fell in love with this Eagle Rock Mid-Century house, and during its remodel he found a letter in the wall saying that the house was built with lots of love. He felt that good energy when he first walked into the house. Erin knew John for over a year before she saw his home.

Their home is full of life, color and personality, with glorious high ceilings that allow the space to breathe.

Name: Carrie Gifford & Hal Mertz Location: Los Feliz; Los Angeles, California Size: 1,500 square feet Years lived in: 2.5 years; rented This is by far one of my favorite tours that I have ever gotten to shoot for Apartment Therapy. Not only is their home gorgeous, open and welcoming, but Carrie and Hal are also some of the most genuinely kind people I’ve ever met!

He emailed me a few months ago, saying he purchased a beautiful new midcentury home and was in the process of restoring it. Robert has used a handful of the same furnishings in his new place, while making a few new purchases.

Name: Emily Rosenzweig & Andrew Hunter Location: Uptown, New Orleans, Louisiana Size: 2,000 square feet Years lived in: 9 months; owned All it took was one weekend for Emily to fall in love. It happened during a girls’ getaway to New Orleans with her best friend last January. When she returned to her home in rural upstate New York, she handed a New Orleans real estate magazine to her husband and said, “Andrew, it is incredible. It is an old-house-lover’s paradise.

Tasha’s East Austin house exudes it.

Name: Designer and interiors stylist Maureen Stevens and husband Jason (plus a tenant) Location: Old West Austin Neighborhood; Austin, Texas Size: 2,200 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Rented To say Maureen’s home exudes a comfortable style would be an understatement. You immediately feel at ease as soon as you enter her Austin home. Some people just naturally “get” how to make a home look great and inviting.

Name: Pomona Singh Location: Toronto, Canada Size: 1100 square feet Years lived in: 5 years, Owned There’s something so fascinating about getting a peek into another person’s home — I love to see how other people live and the design and details they choose to surround themselves with. Pomona’s thoughtfully decorated space is filled with both old and new treasures, with everything in the perfect place and every detail thought out.

Name: Eileen McGrath Location: Georgetown; Washington, DC Size: 2,700 square feet Years lived in: 13 years; Owned It’s no surprise that Eileen McGrath’s place is so inviting. As a real estate agent for Washington Fine Properties, the top residential firm in DC, she’s a pro at making beautiful houses look like great homes. “I do this for my clients all the time,” she says, straightening a stack of magazines here, moving flowers there, plumping a pillow on the sofa.

If you loved their colorful home, their dreamy backyard yurt, which doubles as an office, will definitely make you swoon!

Name: Jeremy Briddell Location: Phoenix, Arizona Size: 780 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years; Rented Jeremy has an MFA in ceramics from Arizona State University. He’s had exhibitions all over the country, and won the Emerging Artist Award from the American Crafts Council in 2001. His ceramics are stunning — structured and delicate, with a beautifully contrasting rough, organic texture. Not surprisingly, his home has the same quality.

Name: Robin and Jeff Jones Location: Georgetown; Washington, DC Size: 2,500 square feet Years lived in: 5 years; Owned Robin opened her house up to us on the first spring-like day of this endless winter, and how appropriate: the colors and light of the place whoosh past you like April, comin’ in hot. Better than Christmas in July, what we’ve got here is more like May Day in March. But the house is much more than a few well-chosen, cheery colors.

Name: Jane and Alex Bonsor, and children Cosmo, Hope and Albert Location: Notting Hill, London, United Kingdom Size: 2,600 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Owned A black-and-white-tiled entrance is typical of many houses in London, and a charming design signature of this city. In the case of Jane Bonsor’s Notting Hill home, however, it also gives a clue as to what you’ll find inside: a whole lot of bold pattern. You might remember Jane’s home from her recent House Call.

Name: Jane, Dan, Georgia and Lily Wright Location: Jamestown, Rhode Island Size: 700 square feet Years lived in: 1 year, owned The temperature is in the mid 20’s and the ground is covered in a layer of snow that crunches with each step when I arrive at the Wrights’ Jamestown studio on a weekday morning in early February. Jane, a painter and printmaker, welcomes me into the tranquil space where she spends her days working.

Name: Bree, creator of Capitol Romance, and husband Andy Ryback Location: Trinidad, Washington, DC Size: 1250 square feet Years lived in: 3; Owned There’s no question Bree and Andy Ryback want you to feel welcome in their home, and they start up front, where their sunshine yellow door and mustache ‘Bonjour’ mat instantly brings a smile to your face.

Laura and Ray are that couple.

Name: Peggy North, party designer and owner of Fire and Creme Kids Location: Venice; Los Angeles, California Size: 3,200 square feet Years lived in: 11 years We fell in love with Peggy’s home because it is an inspirational example of how to combine Craftsman architecture with a beach aesthetic, while adding in in your own personal artistic and bohemian flair. Peggy moved from Paris, so of course there is also a European vibe happening as well.

Name: Wedding Photographer Megan Wynn Location: Capitol Hill; Denver, Colorado Size: 800 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years; Rented Indiana native Megan Wynn is an incredible wedding photographer, a free spirit, and one inspiring lady. She recently decided to make a life change and move to a place that had always called her name. Leaving behind her 1930s duplex and vowing to have no regrets, Megan packed up a Uhaul, her golden retriever pup, and headed west for Colorado.

Name: Antena and Miles David Location: Newport, Rhode Island Size: 1900 square feet Years lived in: 11 years; owned When Miles and Antena bought their Newport home eleven years ago, they loved the bones of the traditional Victorian structure, but envisioned a transformation that would infuse the 1892 building – filled with drab colors, floral wallpaper and period decor – with the bright coastal charm of a seaside cottage.

Name: Rachel and Tiernan Mennen Location: Bloomingdale; Washington, DC Size: 2,700 square feet (including English basement) Years lived in: 2 years; Owned Rachel, an interior designer, and Tiernan, an attorney, moved from Brooklyn to DC’s Bloomingdale neighborhood about two years ago. Though it’s in the heart of the District, it maintains a sort of outpost-y spirit, which appealed to the couple, reminding them of Brooklyn.

It has a glamorous, 1960s jet set vibe, and the giant Slim Aarons poolside photographs set a mood of relaxed elegance. Much of the furniture is from Chloe’s own company, Made.
