Designer Johnny Coleman loves color drenching and period mixing, and he designed his Chicago rental apartment “as a modern take on the east wing of a country house.” He's also been collecting antiques since he was 14 years old!

This renovated 1952 house in the San Fernando Valley was transformed for around $100K, and hides two bold color surprises: a red and a green bathroom.

This houseboat was originally a chaotic mix of styles and elements thanks to previous owners and different remodels in the ‘80s and ‘90s. “The kitchen used to feel like a bit of a cave, with minimal windows, grubby cabinetry, and huge appliances.”

Rather than rip out all the retro charm of this apartment that’s been owned by his family for three generations, Octavio honored the home’s 1950s roots and added his own touches of contemporary style.

This creative couple – floral designer and landscape designer – took inspiration from both their love of horticulture for their renovated home’s stunningly unique kitchen backsplash.

By combining dark furniture, natural wood, white textiles, and plaid accents, Yuan Tian created a balanced, minimal, and warm home. “The result is a studio where every inch is functional, and the contrasts in materials and colors define its distinctive style.”

There’s eerie and magical wallpaper and candlelight makes the home glow at night. This house is a little bit spooky and very cozy.

Rosaline Elbay has added paint to nearly every inch of her Boerum Hill apartment; she describes the home’s style as “lapsed archaeologist.”

In just 484 square feet, designer Nataliia Lymar created a space that feels calm, spacious, and deeply personal — complete with mirrors that multiply natural light and a dining table made from a tree that once grew in her family’s yard in Uman.
