Jenny is the owner and designer behind Penny Jark Interiors. The home that she shares with her husband has a small bathroom that as the “before” photo shows, wasn’t exactly bursting with boldness. Then Jenny brought her style to the space. From Jenny: When working with clients I often come to an understanding of what aesthetic they prefer. However when it comes to my own dwelling I go back on forth on style, colors and the overall feeling I’d like in the space.

Before & After: A Boring Bedroom Goes Bold
Project by: Lisa of Lisa Zager Interiors Location: Nashville, Tennessee The designer says: This bedroom was re-done for a 10-year-old boy, who loved bold patterns and colors. We wanted this space to be very graphic and modern for him, something he can grow up in, with a hint of sophisticated style. The juxtoposition of bold black and whites against his neon, bright colored toys and accents in the room is one of our favorite elements.

From Veerta: I am an Interior Designer with my own company, Motiani Design, but this project is a little more special to me, because it’s actually my home. I moved in with my boyfriend about six months ago, and naturally of course, we immediately started having decor battles! Jay applied the use-what-you-have motto and created a whole new space within a space! From Jay: This project was really easy and really affordable. Nothing new was purchased for this living room makeover. Everything was shopped and sourced from what the homeowner already had in the house.

Name: Christopher & Sara Location: Richmond, Virginia Christopher Hildebrand, an industrial designer, and his wife Sara Moriarty, after years of living in quirky but cramped older homes, decided to design and build a home to their own specifications. Originally planning to restore an early 20th-century cottage in Richmond, Virginia, the couple realized there was no hope of salvaging the existing structure on the hillside site.

Name: Heather & Matt Location: Sante Fe, New Mexico We live in the tiny village of Madrid, NM, just south of Santa Fe. It’s a community of 400 people with over 50 art galleries, so, our friends are artists, and the house that my husband Matt and I built with our own 4 hands, while growing our family over the past 5 years is full of our friends’ art. We live on a mountain top, overlooking our village and Santa Fe on 8 acres.

A Tour of AphroChic’s Stylish Show Home at Helms Bakery
On the weekend of October 12th in Los Angeles, global design gurus Jeanine Hays and Bryan Mason remixed the Helms Bakery District’s newest showroom space, transforming its interior into a stunning concept home filled with design inspiration. The exhibit, complete with a living room, library, master bedroom, dining room, and back patio, was furnished entirely with items from the Helm’s Bakery District’s various retailers.

Before & After: A Blah Bookshelf Gets a Big Dose of Happy
Nicole tells us, “When the seller of our new home asked us to trash the book shelf and storage unit she deemed too battered and bulky, I thanked her kindly for her wasteful ways.” Nicole wasn’t nearly so quick to discount these useful shelves; she knew they just needed some love. Before & After: The “Wig Lady” Chairs Get Gorgeously Ghostly
Jean and Ruthie bought these chairs nearly 20 years ago from a mother-daughter duo who were selling the entire contents of their home. The creepy house was filled with an assortment of oddities and at one point they noticed piles scattered throughout the house – only to realize later that they were, in fact, piles of hundreds of wigs! They say, “The whole situation was a bit Grey Gardens.” When they went back the next day, the house was deserted.

We transformed it by updating pieces the family already had, turning a former closet into a desk space and created a masterpiece with all of the kids’ artwork. Bright paint and accessories round out the now creative, family-friendly space.
