Before & After: From ’70s Clunker to Classy Credenza
Sometimes, you’ve just got to take a chance. When Pati’s sister offered her a large and somewhat underwhelming dresser, she was on the fence. She decided while moving, she no longer had room for it. She offered it to me and I was a bit undecided. Not only was it heavy, it needed some work.

A Former Rat Pack Hang Out Spot Turned “Globally Modern” Home
Name: Jody Location: Carlsbad, California Our mid-century modern home is located in South Carlsbad, California. It was first owned by musician Harry James and model/actress Betty Grable and was a hangout for The Rat Pack. It was later owned by Dustin Hoffman. What initially sold me on the house was the 15 foot copper doors and giant wall that leads into a courtyard. The home is 2,900 square feet and mostly windows or doors that open up to the outside.

Cate’s thrift store find was certainly interesting, if a little clunky. After pulling out the pieces she needed for another project, Cate got inventive and the results are pretty charming! Before & After: A Not So Pretty in Pink Bathroom Gets a Makeover
Amy’s bathroom was suffering from over-matching-syndrome. It was basically the bathroom equivalent of having your dress match your purse, shoes, scrunchie, lipstick and phone case. How Not to Let the Summer Slowdown Affect Your Productivity at Work
Traditional 9-to-5 jobs can be tedious, but there’s a shift that tends to happen every summer in offices across the country. As jeans and sandals become part of the dress code, you’ll start to notice fewer people in the office. Everyone is either on vacation, getting ready for one, or just got back to a mountain of emails. Productivity slumps. Recurring meetings are cancelled week-to-week, and deadlines become a little bit more flexible.

The Sandless Beach Blanket: Urban Legend or Must-Have Invention? We Tested One to Find Out
Have you ever heard of a “sandless” beach blanket? Well, we hadn’t either until recently. When I first introduced the idea, my fellow AT staffers threw out words like “sorcery” and “urban legend” but mostly, it was a barrage of ???s. No one could wrap their head around it, so we had to take it to the test lab (my local beach) and find out if, in fact, someone could stay sand-free on the shoreline while using one.

Try This Super-Simple DIY: Marbled and Ombre Concrete Planters
I’m a huge fan of the concrete and cement planter trend that’s been popping up on DIY blogs for a while now—but while painting the dull gray surface of standard concrete works, I knew there had to be a cooler way of coloring these little plant homes. After some research and hands-on testing, it turns out that the trick is starting with white concrete and stirring in powdered pigments. From there, the sky’s the limit. Marble them, create an ombre stack, go two-tone.
