Wisconsin-based interior designer Emily Winters of Peabody’s Interiors was tasked with an all-too-classic mission: An outdated kitchen from the late 1990s to early 2000s was in need of a modern makeover — and a much more functional layout.“It was a sea of natural maple cabinetry with sponge-painted walls and Corian countertops,” Winters says of the original kitchen.

Exterior paints can look extremely different depending on the time of day, this homeowner advises.

“We knew we wanted a stone floor instead of linoleum and to replace the upper cabinets with shelving,” the homeowner says.

“I wanted to renovate my whole bathroom one day, but doing this definitely saved me a lot of money,” the homeowner says.

It cost $10,000 to renovate.

“I wanted something brighter, more colorful, and more personal,” the homeowner says.

The bathroom was last updated in 2007.

This has “relax here” written all over it.

The vanity was too bulky, and the mirror was “laughably wrong” for the room.

“It was a blank slate with so much potential to become something stylish, fun, and functional,” the homeowner says.

Removing "layers on layers of wallpaper" helped create a cozy, family-friendly dining space.

“The bench is both functional and pretty,” the DIYer says.

“There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a space transform through your own effort,” the DIYer says.
