Before & After: A Sleek Modern Update for a 1960s Kitchen
Laura had been living in her two-bedroom co-op in Brooklyn’s Windsor Terrace for five years before she finally decided to take the plunge and renovate her kitchen. While her cabinets were still in decent shape, the linoleum floor was not: it “only looked serviceable in the five minutes after it was mopped.” And the original 1960s oven, while charming, was clearly due for an upgrade.

Try This Super-Simple DIY: Marbled and Ombre Concrete Planters
I’m a huge fan of the concrete and cement planter trend that’s been popping up on DIY blogs for a while now—but while painting the dull gray surface of standard concrete works, I knew there had to be a cooler way of coloring these little plant homes. After some research and hands-on testing, it turns out that the trick is starting with white concrete and stirring in powdered pigments. From there, the sky’s the limit. Marble them, create an ombre stack, go two-tone.

Before & After: A Teeny Kitchen is Transformed on a Tiny Budget
In the hunt for the perfect apartment—one that’s located where you want and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg—you sometimes have to make sacrifices. For Kimberly’s search in Philadelphia, she was willing to settle for a small “kitchen” since she doesn’t cook often. But she wasn’t going to settle on it being boring and beige.

A Lovely Live/Work Home in Silver Lake

My husband is an animation director and I’m an art director/interior designer, so having an inspiring place to live and work was extremely important, as well as having a walkable neighborhood.

Before & After: A Spacious Living Room Gets an Entirely New Look
At Apartment Therapy, we talk a lot about dealing with small spaces, but larger spaces can also present their own unique design challenge. Before, the family’s furniture — a single sofa and a small dining table — was a bit lost in the expansive space.

3D-Printed Home Decor Products You’ll Actually Want to Buy
The idea of 3D-printed products for the home is admittedly a little out there, even Jetsons-esque. The gadgets and gizmos a plenty on sale throughout the internet may run the gamut from completely bizarre to actually interesting (and normal), but no matter where they fall on the spectrum, something that came from a printer (that’s not a sheet of paper with words on it) is certainly a conversation starter. We rounded up a handful of things you might actually want to buy for your own home.

Before & After: A Dark Master Bedroom Brightens Up
Amanda writes: “When we first bought the house, I painted our bedroom this deep, dark teal. I had rented so long, I just wanted to cover every surface with paint and wallpaper! While a pretty color, it made our room very depressing, dark, and cave-like.” When our contractor was taking out the walls and ceilings, we realized we had an awesome pitch to the ceiling. We decided to keep it lofty, and add a faux beam. This room is now so light and airy.

The Minimalist’s Approach to Maximum Color: 10 Unexpected Spots to Add a Touch of Paint
There are two ways to work dramatic color into your home: Go for the whole wall, or use little splashes of color for a big effect. The best part of painting a smaller area? It’s much easier to paint over if you change your mind or when it’s time to move out.

Declutter (In a Big Way!) by Asking Yourself One Simple Question
