Upgrade Your Shower Style: Dress Up Your Bath with Valances, Cornices & Pelmets
Unless you’re talking about a new fabric, there usually isn’t much to talk about when it comes to shower curtains. (Though we could go on about the pros and cons of curved vs. traditional curtain rods.) However, there’s one decor element that can upgrade any shower curtain into a focal point: A valance, cornice or pelmet.

A New Palm Springs Community Sells Tiny Homes That Are Both Adorable and Affordable
Fans of mid-century architecture and design are drawn to Palm Springs, California like moths to the flame, but few can afford to actually live there. That all may be about to change, though, thanks to one enterprising “vintage mobile home park” in south Palm Springs that recently embraced the Tiny Home Movement.

8 Vintage Pieces Used in Unexpected & Brilliant Ways
I’m a big fan of vintage furniture: well-made and well-loved, the right piece can add a focal point to any space. But keeping in mind the old adage of having nothing in your home that isn’t beautiful or useful, you want to be sure that you aren’t just adding vintage pieces for the sake of them being, well, old. Check out the following for examples of vintage being brilliantly repurposed, reused, or just given the right surroundings.

The sharing economy promises the freedom to earn extra money on your own time and terms. Just how much money varies, but one platform makes its users far more cash than any other. They found that the average Uber driver makes $364 a month, while the average Lyft driver pulls in $377.

Before & After: A Sturdy and Stylish One-of-a-Kind DIY Changing Table
Sunny found this mega outdated but well made dresser on Craigslist and knew it would be an excellent fit in her nursery. Some sanding, painting, and drilling resulted in a muted yet gorgeous piece of furniture. Oh, and she did it all while very pregnant. We’re tired for her. From Sunny: This $50 Craigslist wood dresser was just the perfect size for our nursery — but boy, was it ever hideous.

A Tiny Home in Rome With an Unusual Floor Plan & Luxe Look
The sort of aesthetic that we associate with the words “bachelor pad”—dark colors, dark woods, lots of chrome and leather—doesn’t usually appeal to me. But there’s something about this bachelor pad that I just cannot resist. All the finishes—the dark marble backsplash, the wood-paneled walls, the brass that frames the kitchen doorway—are so luxurious that I wish I could reach out and touch them through my computer screen.

What is Considered an “Older” Home?
I distinctly remember during our home-buying journey when our real estate agent asked if we wanted new construction, something close to it, or if we’d be open to an “older” home. When we said yes, we knew that—in our budget—we would likely be looking at a few houses built in the early-to-mid 1900s. However, if we’d had a much larger budget, we could very well have wound up walking through (and legitimately considering) houses built in the early 1800s.

Before & After: A DIY Kitchen Remodel on a 6K Budget
Sharlene’s ’70s kitchen was vivid green and laced with hard-to-clean linoleum. Instead of living with it or hiring an expensive contractor, this husband and wife team utilized their vacation days, rolled up their sleeves and got to work. From Sharlene: We had an original 1974 kitchen without the perks of the vintage appeal. The laminate cabinets were spray painted white and the laminate countertops were coming apart. No matter how much you cleaned, it always appeared dirty and worn.

Half baths can be so easy to forget — home to b-team hand towels and re-gifted decorative soaps, relegated to occasional guest usage and always in the shadow of the bathrooms with things like tubs and showers. Christina decided it was time to give her half bath a little time in the spotlight, and buckled down to give it an eye-catching upgrade. From Christina: The bathroom before was dark and dreary. It looked like any other bathroom and felt like a dark hole in the hallway.

A Tiny Chicago Studio Defies Conventional Wisdom for Small Spaces
Browsing through the photos of Rene’s Chicago studio, you’d never guess it was only 320 square feet. The Homes that America Built: A Crash Course in Favorite American Architecture Styles
I have this argument with friends every now and again: What’s “American” food? The question inspires a lively discussion, with a lot of suggestions but no real consensus. (It usually comes down to hog dogs or Southern-style barbeque.) Nailing down American food is a tough thing because there is so much of America. So many people and cultures and styles that manage to blend together and evolve over the (few) centuries the country’s been around.
