Name: Vivian Beer City: Manchester, NH Style: Sexy industrial. Carpenter paired with: Matt Blashaw When did you realize you had potential in furniture design? I really fell in love with furniture design in graduate school. I had studied as a sculptor at Maine College of Art and worked in architectural iron before studying in the Metals program at Cranbrook Academy of Art. My research was divided between contemporary design and decorative arts history.

It’s been a wild week for singer/songwriter Harry Styles, and he must be looking to find some joy at home.Styles co-chaired the Met Gala alongside Lady Gaga and Serena Williams on Monday, May 6, and he apparently took his duties very seriously. When I realized how little research and design was put into many designs that are nevertheless successful on the market. Style lacking substance. What is your design philosophy?

While completing my BA in Drawing, I grew into sculpture as a medium. I found it to be a much more effective representation of my ideas. After about two years’ worth of work, I realized that I was blending genres – between fine art and design, specifically furniture.

Name: Kyle Huntoon City: Deetroit, MI Style: I design and build furniture that combines elements of mid-century modern design with traditional joinery techniques. I strive to create designs that are understated, and carefully considered in their construction and functionality. As far as my personal style goes, I am a simple guy; Detroit Denim jeans, a t-shirt and my Danner work boots. About ten years ago, when I got to college, I was so far away from home that I tried making furniture for myself. Much of those early pieces were quite experimental but they pointed me down a path that I have come to love.
