Katie has lived here for 14 years, and over the years has turned a rather unremarkable Victorian two-bedroom flat into an open, airy and relaxed home.

Name: Sonia Rayos and Ibán Ramón and their four kids Location: Ensanche, Valencia Size: 2238 square feet Years lived in: Owned 3 years Sonia and Ibán’s home illustrates a perfect harmony between two design disciplines. He is an award-winning graphic designer, and she’s an award-winning architect. They complement each other, and their family flat is full of functionality and great design.

Name: Michaela-Sophie Chin and Nicholas Sangster Location: Brisbane, Australia Years Lived In: Renting 2.5 years Michaela and Nick both work in the creative industries, which is obvious to any guest who enters their imaginative home. They furnished the space with secondhand finds that complement the house’s unique features and reflect their artistic interests. We first got a peek at her inspiring Icelandic home in her house call two years ago…but it’s already evolved a lot since. It’s a stylishly designed home, but it’s also comfortable, which is important for a family of four (five with dog, Storm).

Although it’s a small space by square footage standards, the apartment feels huge thanks to a light wall color, open windows and tall ceilings. Arden’s smart design sensibilities have kept furnishings to a minimum, creating a comfortable home that functions perfectly for her.

Name: Eli and Luis Location: El Borne — Barcelona, Spain Size: 1,200 square feet Years lived in: Owned 2 years Though Eli and Luis consider themselves modern nomads, they decided to settle down in one spot two years ago. That’s when they found this apartment in Barcelona’s El Borne neighborhood. Luis wasn’t initially sure it had any potential; the apartment wasn’t in great shape. But Eli fell for it from the moment she saw it and convinced Luis to give it a chance.

Name: Tucker Schreiber Location: Little Italy — Toronto, Ontario Size: 800 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years, rented Tucker, a product manager for Shopify, lives in this bright and open loft apartment in downtown Toronto, filled with a balance of passed down family heirlooms and IKEA essentials. You can choose your own fabulous furnishings or let her advise you how to design and decorate your own home. And seeing how beautifully she’s created her own home, it’s clear she’d give great advice.

Name: Nacho, Irene and baby Ray Location: Gracia – Barcelona, Spain Size: 750 square feet Years lived in: Owned for 10 years Nacho bought this 1930s attic apartment in rough, raw shape. The old kitchen is where the current kitchen is today. The beautiful mezzanine (that houses the master bedroom) didn’t even exist. After two years of remodeling it solo, he was ready to enjoy his loft “for one.” But then he met Irene, and a little later, a third resident arrived: baby Ray!

Name: Alida and Alex Location: Gracia – Barcelona, Spain Size: 480 square feet Years lived in: 6 months, renting Having a boyfriend who works at IKEA can make it difficult not to turn your entire home into an IKEA catalog, but as Alida and Alex’s small Spanish apartment shows, infusing your home with cute details can completely transform the personality of a place. Their apartment is best described as an adorable pastel nook, a rare style in Barcelona.

With artifacts from all around the world, beautiful canvases from artists (some of whom she is related to) and even bones, insect display cases and taxidermy pieces, it certainly could be mistaken for one of the coziest exhibits ever.

Name: Fabiola, Javier, Claudia (5) and Guillermo (2) Location: Barcelona, Spain Size: 1,720 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years, owned When Javi and Fabi first saw this space on the top floor of a beautiful duplex in the family-friendly neighborhood of Eixample, it was completely different. All of the fixtures were outdated and the layout needed to be reconfigured. Undeterred, they saw the potential of the space and decided to do a complete overhaul.

Name: Glenda and David Pedersen Location: Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue — Quebec, Canada Size: 1,200 square feet Years lived in: 18 years, owned Glenda — a most charming woman — finds the best inspiration from her dreams when it comes to decorating. She has a thing for the quirky, the retro, the playful, and the unexpected.

Name: Whitley Glasgow, her husband Josh, and pup Maxwell Location: Vicenza, Italy Size: 4,500 square feet Years lived in: 1 year, renting When Whitley and her husband, Josh, first imagined themselves moving to Italy, they knew they had to find a place with character. When they came across this rental apartment—a part of the Villa Fracanzan Piovene—they found it in spades.

Responsible for all of the design decisions in the 754-square-foot space, the biggest priority was a roomy and functional kitchen.

Name: Line Tiller Location: El Clot — Barcelona, Spain Size: 850 square feet Years lived in: 2 years, owned Stepping into the home of Line (pronounced Lee-Nuh) Tiller is like stepping into a cozy retreat in the middle of the city. “Warm and cozy are the main ingredients of a Norwegian home because it’s cold in Norway,” says Line, originally from the Scandinavian country.

Name: Carina Casanovas Location: Gracias — Barcelona, Spain Size: 3,000 square feet Years lived in: 25 years, owned Carina has been buying, restoring and selling antiques for 28 years. Antiques are such a part of her life, that her house reflects this passion as well. The home she’s owned for 25 years does have some antique store vibes, but it’s still cozy and home-like. And there are tons of things to look at, from skulls to religious art.

Name: Majo, Arturo, and their daughter Sofia Location: Bartolomé Bavio — Buenos Aires, Argentina Size: 2,400 square feet Years lived in: 8 years, owned Imagine having your nearest neighbor at a far enough distance that it’s unnecessary to set a password on your Wi-Fi. Welcome to Bartolomé Bavio, a rural town of 2,000 people located a couple of hours south of Buenos Aires and home to a lovely family made up of Majo, her husband, their daughter, and three rescued dogs.

Name: Camilla Larsson and family Location: Nyköping, Sweden Size: 1,539 square feet Years lived in: 7 years, owned Welcome to Scandi Week—Apartment Therapy’s seven-day focus on all-things Scandinavia (often defined as the countries of Sweden, Denmark, and Norway). Sometimes it seems like the whole world is obsessed with trying to copy this corner of the globe, from its timeless style aesthetic to its now-famous coziness rituals.

Julie Progin and Jesse McLin have their own homewares brand called Latitude 22N.

Before this remodel, all of the rooms were closed off. The kitchen used to be a bedroom. And the current shower used to be a tiny kitchen.

Inside this house, behind its stained glass front door, is the cozy and inviting home of Michelle Grayson, one half of the genius behind Sprout Gallery.

Name: Ms. Pink and Mr. Black, two out of their three sons, and three cats Location: London, England Size: 1,350 square feet Years lived in: 16 years, owned When I asked Ms. Pink if I could feature her home on Apartment Therapy, she seemed almost apologetic that she didn’t have photos of every room of the 1,350-square-foot split level flat in a Victorian house she shares with her partner Mr. Black, two of their three sons, and three cats.

So it comes as no surprise that she’s found herself in a career that stretches her artistic muscles.

Name: Celeste and Felix Location: Monte Grande — Buenos Aires, Argentina Size: 410 square feet Years lived in: 2 years, renting Celeste and her boyfriend Felix’s story actually starts in chilly Canada, where he was living when they met. She tried moving there, but the cold weather and the distance from her friends and family made things hard for Celeste, so the couple decided to move to Buenos Aires to see how that worked for them.

Name: Maca Atencio, husband Esteban, and kids Nico and Oli Location: Montreal, Quebec Size: 1,120 square feet Years lived in: 11 months, owned Living in Montreal can be fun, artsy, and beautiful, and that’s completely on display in lifestyle blogger Maca Atencio’s home. She and her husband Esteban had waited a couple of years to buy the perfect house for their little family, and this one had every single detail they wanted!

Name: Thierry Chow and Peter Yuill Location: Hong Kong Size: 1,600 square feet Years Lived In: Rent for 2 good years Forget all the outdated notions of what you think feng shui is about—that isn’t what expert Thierry Chow practices. Under her company, TRE, this modern master blends ancient feng shui concepts in all aspects of design (including fashion) with the contemporary world.

Name: Winkie Visser and my husband Edgar Location: Eindhoven, the Netherlands Size: 1,184 square feet Years lived in: 15 years, owned Edgar’s grandpa had worked at Dutch technology company Philips for 43 years when he finally retired. It felt like a whimsical coincidence for him to be living in one of the so-called “Austrian (Philips) houses” some time later. These houses were bought by Philips back in the 1950s to accommodate their employees in an era of housing shortage.

Name: Roel Marius Brouwer, Remy, and their dog Stewie Location: Laren (North Holland province), the Netherlands Size: 861 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years, renting Roel might be a legal adviser by day, but his true passion is interiors. His mom sparked this love at a young age by regularly changing things up in his childhood home; through tiny adjustments their interior looked different each season.

Name: Jellina Detmar, her husband Jan, their children Déjan and Melin Location: Kollum, the Netherlands Size: 2,422 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years, owned It’s hard to believe Jellina and her family moved to this old farmhouse a mere one and a half years ago. The former residents had created a drywall box within the house, concealing many of the home’s beautiful elements like the big wooden beams.

Nelson Chow bought this tiny apartment a year ago and made good use of a small space by building a "treehouse" bed loft.

In the 1960s, it was a photography studio, welcoming lots of models and colorful characters into its airy interior. When that photographer retired, he moved out and let his son rent the place: Gianni, an architect who appreciates simplicity in things.

Name: Amanda Holland, Mike Brunel, daughters Millicent and Eva Location: Wellington, New Zealand Size: 230 square metres (approximately 2,476 square feet) Years Lived In: 11 years, owned Interior stylist and design/lifestyle store owner Amanda Holland (of Small Acorns) lives in Wellington with her husband and their two daughters Milly and Eva. The couple bought this home 11 years ago when it was really run down and had no one living in it for two years.

Name: Amy and Andy Location: Barcelona, Spain Size: 1,075 square feet Years lived in: 2 years, renting Amy and her partner Andy are originally from the UK, and they met in London right when Andy had just accepted a job offer in Barcelona working in IT. Abeer, a photographer/blogger and her engineer husband, Aetesam, started renting this bungalow in the suburbs of Melbourne a year ago, and have lovingly turned it into a home for them and their two little boys since.

Name: Helen Bayley and husband Chris Bayley. Daughters Charlotte (9), Annabelle (7), and Imogen (6). Location: Queensland, Australia Years lived in: 11 years, owned Helen Bayley knows how to create happiness with color. In 2013 she launched Lovestar, a company that vibrantly re-imagines the old-fashioned ceramic wall vase out of modern materials like Lucite. Helen and her husband handcraft their products in their studio in Brisbane, and the vases have been a huge hit since day one.

Name: Lorraine Loots and Mark De Menezes and their two-year-old son, Felix Location: Observatory — Cape Town, South Africa Size: 2,153 square feet Years lived in: 4 years, owned Photographed next to small objects to show their scale—matchsticks, earbuds, jelly beans—Lorraine‘s teeny art pieces are detailed delights.

Name: Hernan Location: Recoleta — Buenos Aires, Argentina Size: 700 square feet Years lived in: Owned 6 years Six years ago, Hernan was fed up with where he was living. “It had many rooms but each of them was very small. I needed fewer rooms and more space,” he explains. He also yearned for more outdoor access. But after losing out on a nice flat with a big terrace in an exhaustive bidding war that lasted for months, he came across the home he lives in now.

It’s in a great location in the middle of our village and only a three minute walk to the grocery store! Our favorite part: The balcony and THAT view! The mountain range located directly across from us (Dents du Midi) is stunning and we never tire of it!
