Velvet Gems We Want to Scoop Up
Velvet feels luxurious. The word, much like the upholstery, is sensual and lavish. It’s enough to want to wrap yourself up in swaths of the fabric, yet it doesn’t take much of the plush texture to give a room a sense of opulence. Velvet furniture and home accessories are available at every size, shape and price point, to create a look that works for you.

Stylish Furniture Finds from a Super Affordable Source: Sauder
In our own ways, we’re all creatures of habit. Whether that’s with precisely how we do things around the house, or with the brands we bring into our homes. I am quite guilty of this (specifically the latter), and am quick to get into “brand ruts.” Though I’m aware of the seemingly endless offering of home decor outlets online to choose from, I stick to my usual stable…my furniture comfort zone.

The Best Places to Buy Genuine Vintage Hardware
Good hardware can make everything from dressers to cabinets look so much more stylish. While it’s easier than ever before to find cool hardware, authentic period hardware can be difficult to sort from the reproductions. Though there’s nothing wrong with a repro in many cases, sometimes you just want the character that a real piece of vintage or antique hardware brings to a project.

The Best of Hans Wegner in the Marketplace
There’s a big difference between understanding the concept of a design style and recognizing individual artists’ work; Danish modernism has a lot of common themes that can make it easy to grasp, but designers like Verner Panton and Arne Jacobsen have unique attributes all their own. Let’s start your formal design training with a look at how exactly Hans Wegner has maintained popularity well into the modern era.

This Cult Favorite Australian Brand Is Now Available in the US
If there’s something we’ve learned from our cadre of Australian House Tour participants, it’s that the folks down under are not afraid of color and pattern. The clever, color-loving trio behind Kip&Co are sisters Kate Heppell and Hayley Pannekoecke, and their good pal Alex van der Sluys.

Caveat Emptor: 7 Secrets to Try From Master Amazon Shoppers
What did we do before Amazon? I realize that the retail behemoth might be responsible for the death of the independent bookstore, but I’m still oh so grateful for/dependent upon the services it provides (and that’s even before Marvelous Mrs. Maisel hits Prime Video). Though, with so many sellers from all over the world offering products, you run the risk of getting items that are either no good, or flat-out not what was promised.

Collectible IKEA: Some Vintage Pieces Are Auctioning for Up to $50,000
When one thinks of IKEA, the questions of “collectible” and “resale value” aren’t generally ones that come to mind. More like, “Will this last?” But IKEA pieces dating back to catalogs as early as 1944 (yes, our stylist friends were just as shocked as you are RN) all of a sudden are generating major buzz on the auction and estate sale market.

An Exciting New Furniture Trend That’s Actually Affordable
One of my favorite trends in furniture is the comeback of cane. I remember it from my grandparents’ house in the ’80s (sticking your fingers into the weave), but, paired with contemporary materials and worked into modern shapes, it can also feel very fresh and very new. And the good news is that, unlike a lot of other furniture trends, cane is fairly democratic, appearing in a lot of admittedly very expensive pieces, but also a few at the more modest end of the spectrum.

Sleep Tight With the Right Nightstand for Every Budget
All hail the humble nightstand! As much as a comfy bed and light-blocking curtains are essential to a good night’s sleep, you can’t knock the impact that a nightstand can have on your relaxation time. It allows you to store a good book or crossword puzzle nearby in case you need to force a little drowsiness, keep your phone (which is probably also your alarm clock) close at hand, and find the perfect space to hide a midnight snack. So you definitely need one, but where to begin?

Three Small Things to Throw in Your Bag to Make Your Day a Little Easier

Splurge, Save, Steal: Sleek and Modern Chandeliers
Nothing adds instant drama to a space quite like a chandelier. But if you’re anything like me, the word tends to draw up mental images of stuffy decor and overly-ornate crystal. With the gorgeous range of more minimal, modern designs out there, this definitely doesn’t have to be the case. Apartment Therapy Marketplace has a bunch of beautiful chandeliers in stock, but these modern finds stood out from the pack.

Monday on Marketplace: A Bookcase for Every Budget
My apartment defies basic New York City cliches by having a “regular”-sized bedroom and a huge kitchen. But as someone who doesn’t cook very often, I’ve repurposed a whole section of open shelving into a makeshift bookshelf over my breakfast table. That’s because despite not making it into your general idea of apartment must-haves (like a sofa and bed), I think that you should try to work a bookshelf (or bookcase) into your home anyway you can.

The Future of Greeting Cards has Arrived (And Luckily It’s Just In Time for Mother’s Day)
Happy May everyone! I thought I’d take this moment to remind you (for your sake and for your mother’s) that Mother’s Day is just around the corner. It will quickly be followed by that deluge of events that all seem to hit us at once this time of year… birthdays, weddings, showers (baby and bridal), graduations, you name it. Splurge, Save, Steal: Get Productive With a New Desk Chair
I’m here to sing the praises of the humble desk chair. As much as a clean and clear surface is an essential part of a workspace, you could argue that the right seating is what can really make or break your 9 to 5. For those of us who even occasionally work at home, desk chairs can be a kind of Goldilocks situation: if they’re too soft and unsupportive you’ll probably end up nodding off, and overly stiff models mean restless legs and sore backs.

It’s almost summer and if you’re currently blenderless, you’re missing out on some seasonal sips like smoothies, milkshakes, and the boozy craze of summer 2016 (and probably 2017, if we’re being honest), frosé. On the Hunt for the Weird and Cool? Check out Reuse America Vintage Warehouse
Say what you will about odd finds for the home but I tend to gravitate to them. In my living room hangs a 5-foot marquee letter Y — an impulse purchase from Marketplace. It comes with a fun story: it was once used in a Korean beer commercial featuring Psy of Gangnam Style-fame. Unusual finds—big and small—can add a special something to your space to make it stand apart. It’s why I’m constantly checking Reuse America Vintage Warehouse’s Marketplace corner.

Mud Cloth Is the Trend We’re Seeing Everywhere, Including Our Capsule Collection
Simply the most popular home design trend that we’ve seen to date is the classic dark and light, crisp influence of Mud Cloth textiles. Think Outside the Box: Package Free Shop Aims To Make Zero Waste Living Easy

Singer began living a zero waste life nearly half a decade ago, and started the blog Trash is for Tossers to help others do so as well.

Splurge, Save, Steal: Home Decor Inspired by Nature
Despite not being an outdoorsy person, I love nature but I love it more indoors. I regularly bring home little bits of the outside. In the living room hangs a sculptural (and broken) tree branch I dragged home from the neighborhood park one day.

Can Custom Made-for-You Shampoo Really Give You the Best Hair Day Ever?
My hair has a life of its own. Along with being oily, limp, and color-treated, the texture is super fine—meaning it’s prone to tangling, frizzing, and generally being all over the place.
