Although I try not to get attached to material objects, there are a handful of things in my home that fill me with gratitude every day. For example, I love my fancy espresso machine, but the comforter I got for a steal also brings me endless joy — especially in the winter months. If you’re on the hunt for your own cozy bed covering, I can tell you from personal experience that even a lightweight comforter is substantial enough for below-freezing nights. In fact, it’s ideal because it keeps you warm without causing you to overheat, and you don’t need to keep the heat on full blast the entire time you’re sleeping.

One of the best places to shop for a new comforter — or just bedding in general — is Macy’s, especially now that the retailer is offering up to 60% off all home categories for its after-Christmas sale. Right now, the Charter Club down comforter is on sale for $120, marked down from $300. Yes, it’s filled with real down, and it’s perfect for this season (and every other one).

What Is the Charter Club Down Comforter?

The Charter Club comforter comes in white, which will look great both inside a duvet cover or on its own if you’re after that hotel look. It has a 100% cotton cover and is filled with hypoallergenic down, which always remains evenly distributed, thanks to the baffle box design. The cotton shell has a thread count of 400 for softness, while the inside has a fill power of 600, meaning it’s at once warm and lightweight.

If you’re after something heavier, you’ll be happy to learn that the comforter also comes in a medium weight. But Macy’s reviewers generally agree that even the lightweight version is a touch too hot for summer but just perfect for every other season. What’s more, the OEKO-TEX certified comforter is machine-washable and features corner tabs for easy duvet insertion, so in addition to being supremely comfortable, it’s practical, too!

What Macy’s Reviewers Are Saying

Average Rating: 4.4/5

This comforter is soooo comfortable and fluffy! Every time I sleep under it, I feel warm in 30 seconds. It’s lightweight enough to not feel suffocated, and it’s super plush. I’m so glad I ordered it!” —Tiffany

“What a steal! I feel and look like I’m in a marshmallow cloud. It’s definitely warm but not too warm. It’s the perfect weight, so I don’t need to have my usual extra blanket. It had no weird smell or anything, perfect straight from the bag. Very luxurious and beautiful! It also has the nice, subtly noisy crispness that I love about hotel bedding.” —Silvia

“I’ve always had polyfill duvets because they were cheaper, but they always felt thin and flat … they also don’t breathe well, so I’d get really hot during the night. I finally decided to splurge on a cotton-covered down duvet and was thrilled to see them on sale! … I bought two twins because my husband and I like separate covers. I washed one at a time in my regular-sized washer and dried them on low. They came out perfect and fluffed up. We absolutely love them! Even though I got the medium weight, because of the cotton cover and baffle box design, I don’t get hot during the night anymore. Best decision ever!” —Cid

Now that the comforter is on sale for just $120, it’s a bargain — especially for real down. Multiple shoppers noted that they went back and bought another one. I have a feeling that after trying it, you’ll want one for every room, too.
