Is Nokia Making a ‘Smart’ Move Bringing the Dumb Phone Back?

Students Design a Temporary Shelter to Combat LA’s Homelessness
There’s a homelessness crisis in Los Angeles, with an estimated 50,000 people sleeping on the streets every night—a figure that’s jumped 35% in the last year alone. Architecture students at the University of Southern California have worked with city officials and nonprofits to come up with Homes for Hope, a single-occupancy pod that can be built quickly and cheaply, and can help provide safe spaces for homeless people while more permanent solutions are in the works.

CB2’s Latest Collection is a Calming Dose of Zen
CB2’s newest collection is calm, cool, and collected. The modern retailer partnered with designer Ross Cassidy, who took his inspiration from Japan for the luxe-meets-minimalist line. IKEA’s New Black Kitchen Cabinets Are Literally Garbage
IKEA’s new cabinets are literally garbage. Kungsbacka, the Swedish furniture retailer’s latest line of kitchen cabinets, is made from reclaimed industrial wood and recycled plastic bottles. IKEA collaborated with Swedish design studio Form Us With Love to create a sleek collection of anthracite cabinets with a matte finish (you know we love a black kitchen!). Each 15.75-by-31.5-inch cabinet uses 25 plastic bottles.

There’s a Cat Yoga Class & It’s Purrfect
Now you can get your Marjaiasana judged by an expert: An animal shelter in Georgia offers a yoga class with their adoptable cats. The class came about after Lisa Johns, a manager at the Good Mews cat shelter in Marietta, and Lisa Bass, a volunteer who happens to be a yoga instructor saw a video of people bringing cats to a yoga studio for a class. Bass thought that bringing people to the cats would be easier (and less cleanup), and so the shelter started hosting cat yoga.

Famed Photographer Bill Cunningham Dies at 87
Legendary New York Times fashion photographer Bill Cunningham died on Saturday at the age of 87. He had been hospitalized recently after a stroke. Born in Boston in 1929, Cunningham moved to New York after dropping out of Harvard. He started out as a hat designer, and when the fashions became less formal in the 1960s, he picked up a camera instead.

There’s an Airbnb for Seniors Meant to Keep People Connected
The sharing economy isn’t just for the young. The Freebird Club is an Airbnb-like service that connects traveling seniors with seniors who have spare rooms. There are a few notable differences between Airbnb and Ireland-based Freebird Club: mostly, that the host always stays (the idea is to foster connections); and it’s members-only, so the over-50 pay a fee to join and use the service. Freebird Club makes it easier for seniors to travel, knowing they won’t be in a place alone.

Apartment Building Incites Rage By Forcing Tenants to Like it on Facebook
People write some weird clauses into leases, but this is a new one: A Salt Lake City apartment complex is requiring that tenants like their page on Facebook, or else. Last week, tenants at City Park Apartments woke up to a Facebook Addendum on their doors, requiring them to “friend” the building’s community page on the social network within five days, or risk being in breach of their lease. A Peek Inside Paisley Park, Prince’s Minnesota Recording Studio
Quite unassuming from the outside, you’d hardly guess this building was the creative refuge of The Purple One. But at Paisley Park in suburban Minnesota, Prince recorded nearly 30 albums. Take a look inside: 55,000 square feet on nine acres, Paisley Park was completed in 1988 and houses four recording studios, a video editing suite, and a 12,500 square foot soundstage.
