When you live in a relatively small space, storage is king—and stylish storage? Well, that really is a checkmate situation. Over the years, I’ve deliberated added certain pieces to my home to make it more functional, organized, and less visually cluttered. I started with woven bins on my living room bookshelf that corral odds and ends while keeping things out of sight. I added a jute hamper near my front door to fake an entry and provide a spot for stashing totes, hats, and scarves. But I think the most frequently asked about storage items I have in my place are the two spine-style bookshelves that I use to hold my sneakers.

You either know this piece well, or you’ve probably at least seen it once or twice and just don’t know it by name. Sometimes called the Sapienthe Tower, or the Story, this metal bookshelf is tall, thin, and the perfect piece for filling an empty corner or even utilizing a small stretch of space near a doorway. Yes, they’re made for books and lots of them; the design is such that when you stack one to the top with volumes, this creates a sculptural tower of books that looks like it might topple over any second. It never does though (at least not to my knowledge), because, of course, the weight is supported by “invisible” metal perches and a sturdy base.

Thing is this bookshelf is not always in stock, and it’s rarely on sale. That’s why I’m buying it right now, while it’s at its cheapest (with the 20 percent off code “EBF20” for World Market Rewards members), before peak Black Friday and Cyber Monday demand. I actually put myself on a waiting list earlier this fall to get one from World Market. My mom saw the dark charcoal version in the Design Within Reach catalog and told me she wanted it but would never pay $350 for it. I told her I could find one for less, but, of course, this black version was sold out when I went looking for it. Now it’s ready to ship, 20 percent off, and the Christmas gift I know she actually wants.

If you’ve been obsessed with this shelf for a while, too, now’s the time to get it. I don’t think you’ll find it much cheaper, and if you want to gift it for the holidays, better to get a head start on what could be a longer shipping time frame.
